Cake Pay

Cake Pay lets you spend your crypto at the places you already shop: buy gift cards and prepaid cards for 150,000+ merchants, paid for straight from your wallet. No bank, no ID, no premium for privacy — a $20 card costs $20, and signing up takes nothing but an email address.

Use Cake Pay from the Apps tab in Cake Wallet (bottom-right of the home screen) or at cakepay.com.

Pick your country

Choose the country where you'll redeem the cards — the catalog and card stock differ per country, so pick honestly or your cards may not work where you live.

Sign in with just an email

To purchase, tap the account icon in the top right and enter your email address — that's the whole signup. Cake Pay emails you a verification code; type it in and you're done.

The account icon in the top right shows a generic account symbol until Cake Pay has an email address on file. After that it shows the first letter of your email address instead — either way, it's the same button in the same place.

Your email is used to deliver gift card codes and redemption links, and it's how support finds your orders. That's all Cake Pay asks for — no name, no ID.

Choose a card and amount

Open a merchant, enter an amount within the card's min/max (many cards support custom amounts), set the quantity, and review the expiry and usage terms. Then tap Purchase Gift Card and pay the invoice from your wallet. The payment options offered depend on which wallet you have open: Bitcoin (on-chain or Lightning), Litecoin (on-chain or MWEB), Monero, or Zcash.

Send the exact invoice amount shown — gift card orders are filled at the invoiced amount, and most cards arrive within an hour (occasionally up to a business day).

Redeem from your email

Your gift card code and redemption link arrive by email at the address you signed up with. Codes stay in your inbox, so you can always find them again by searching your email.

Cake Pay support will reach out only from an @cakewallet.com or @cakepay.com email address if they need more information. Keep an eye on the email you used to place your order.

How long does it take to receive a gift card?

Most merchant cards will arrive within 1 hour, but it can take 1 business day or longer in rare cases. Make sure to save your order ID to get faster support!

Can Cake Pay be used outside of the United States?

Yes! Cake Pay supports most countries, but please be sure to honestly select your country from the dropdown to ensure you get cards that are able to be redeemed and used properly in your country.

Please note the variety of cards and available stock will differ per country.

Why does Cake Pay need my email address?

Your email serves as a way to send you gift card codes and redemption links, while also allowing the Cake Pay support team to assist you in case anything goes wrong.

Do I need to provide other information to third-parties to use my purchased products?

Depending on the merchant terms, you may need to provide other information to redeem and/or use your product. For example, you may need to provide information to the merchant for something to be shipped to your home.

How can I bring up a code again?

Cake Pay redemption codes are only provided by email at the moment, so all codes and redemption links can be found in the email account you used to create the order.

How do I recover an unused code?

You can recover an unused code by searching for it in your email.

Why do I need to activate certain products on a different website?

Some products require you to activate the item on another website to prevent fraud and ensure delivery of cards.

What fees are there?

Cake Pay products are sold at face value, with a very small fee added to cover cryptocurrency conversion costs for Cake Pay.

Are there any limits?

Yes, there are limits. A single user can purchase a maximum of $5,000 per day. You may run into other limits, and limits are subject to change.

Why is Cake Wallet showing a slightly different fiat value than the Cake Pay invoice amount?

Cake Wallet uses a different fiat API endpoint than the Cake Pay endpoint. This can lead to small (<1%) differences in prices shown. For non-USD denominated products, the spread may be a little larger because we buy the cards in USD, and there is thus an implied spread that Cake must pay between USD and the other fiat asset. Always make sure to send the exact amount of cryptocurrency specified for the invoice. Cake Pay uses extremely competitive market rates for crypto/USD.

What cryptocurrencies can I pay with?

Cake Pay invoices are paid from the wallet you have open in Cake Wallet, so the options you see depend on which wallet that is:

  • Bitcoin wallet — on-chain Bitcoin, plus Lightning on software wallets

  • Litecoin wallet — on-chain Litecoin, plus MWEB when MWEB is enabled

  • Monero wallet — Monero

  • Zcash wallet — Zcash

Those are the only assets Cake Pay accepts. If any other wallet type is open (Ethereum, Solana, Tron, and so on) no payment option is offered, so switch to one of the wallets above — or swap into one of those assets first — before buying a card.
